As the season continued, KKR experienced its serious setback on April 27, 2009 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha against Mumbai Indians when their bowlers struggled to contain their opposition and allowed them to score 187 runs and failed to chase and lost by 92 runs. Unfortunately, their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Kingsmead Durban saw them lose again by 5 wickets with just 1 ball remaining; thus demonstrating the difficulty they had in closing out close contests.
