Bangladesh’s cricket board has shifted an ODI against India next month from Dhaka after the country’s opposition announced plans for a challenge that could disable the capital the same day.
India arrives in Bangladesh next week for their first tour since 2015, beginning with an ODI series starting December 4, with all three matches initially scheduled to be in Dhaka.
The third match of the series on December 10 has now moved to the coastal city match of Chittagong, which means it will avoid a rally by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to bring hundreds of thousands onto the streets of Dhaka.
Chittagong was to host one test match, but they felt there should be an ODI at the venue. The Bangladesh cricket board (BCB) operations chief Jalal Yunus told AFP on Wednesday.
Jalal declined to comment on whether the objection caused the late venue change. Still, New Age newspaper said the plank had taken the resolution to avoid the rally, offering an unnamed BCB official. Bangladesh will host India for two test matches in Chittagong from December 14-18 and Dhaka from December 22-26.
